Based on Passpoint, Ameriband eliminates the need for users to find and authenticate on a Wi-Fi network each time they visit by using SIM credentials for their carrier to authenticate in the background. The Passpoint protocol was developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance and adopted as an industry standard in 2012. Wi-Fi equipment and smartphone manufacturers began to deploy Passpoint commercially at scale in 2014.

The company’s carrier relationships allow for secure and seamless access to customer’s Wi-Fi networks. Wi-Fi equipment with Passpoint enabled offers carrier-grade security, leveraging the advanced authentication platforms of cellular networks while increasing usage control of mobile devices on a given Wi-Fi network.

Passpoint adheres to the IEEE 802.11u specification, leveraging 802.1x and EAP authentication. It is restricted to access points and devices capable of WPA2 and WPA3 Enterprise AES-256 authentication and encryption respectively, which fortifies the network’s security.

Ameriband Connect can be easily configured on any Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, or Wi-Fi 6E network, offering fast speeds and very low latency and enabling 5G levels of service indoors. What truly makes this solution stand out is that it can be implemented in as quickly as 30 minutes at no cost.

All a client needs to do is provide the details of their Wi-Fi equipment manufacturer, such as Fortinet, Aruba, Cisco, or most other vendors, and the American Bandwidth team expertly determines the steps needed to reconfigure existing equipment to meet their needs. They can also give the team a list of carriers that want to connect to their Passpoint network. With that information, detailed configuration guides for specific equipment are provided. As part of the configuration process, American Bandwidth also delivers a complete white glove service, offering recommendations on how to optimize the Wi-Fi network for Wi-Fi Calling.

A detailed usage portal allows customers to monitor daily Wi-Fi usage and identify which buildings consume more data. They are also provided with assistance to troubleshoot any Passpoint-related issue.
